Ásbyrgi

The lush Ásbyrgi canyon is more than one kilometre wide and well over three kilometres long. According to legend, it was formed when Odin’s horse, Sleipnir, put his hoof down while travelling over the island.

However, geologists assert that two massive floods from Vatnajökull glacier were responsible for its formation, the first 10,000 years ago and the second 3,000 years ago.
