Egilsstašir

Egilsstašir, located in the heart of east Iceland in the valley of Fljótsdalshéraš, is a home to 3500 inhabitants. The first house in Egilsstašir was built in 1944, and since then the town has grown steadily.

In years gone by, Egilsstašir was the site of an ancient assembly and a place of execution for criminals. The country’s largest forest, Hallormsstašarskógur, is just a short distance from the town to the south.
