The Tour in a Nutshell
Few countries are as pristine or untouched as Iceland and Essential Iceland is your chance to get up close and personal with its astonishing landscape.This breathtaking tour takes you to many of the biggest attractions around the country from the beautiful Blue Lagoon to the awesome Vatnajökull glacier. The package includes accommodation in Reykjavik; Vík; Höfn; Egilsstaðir; Lake Mývatn; Akureyri and Stykkishólmur.

Tour Outline

Day 1: Welcome to Iceland
Arrival at Iceland’s international airport. Spend the night in central Reykjavík, at Fosshótel Barón or similar. Transfer from the airport to Reykjavík is not included.

Day 2: Around the Golden Circle
Day two is a full day’s drive, taking in some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, the waterfall Gullfoss, the great Geysir area and the crater, Kerið. Spend the night at Hotel Hekla or similar. -Driving distance: 217 km.

Day 3: Rocks, waterfalls and a black beach
Today, you will drive from Hvolsvöllur to Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Sights along the way include the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the rock formations of Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar on the black sand beach south of Vík, and the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Spend the night at Hotel Laki or similar. -Driving distance: 178 km.

Day 4: Up close with the great glacier
Your day begins in Skaftafell National Park. If you like exploring the great outdoors on foot, there are many interesting hiking trails in Skaftafell National Park, including a short hike to the beautiful Svartifoss waterfall. You will then head east to the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón, where you can take a thrilling boat ride between the glacier-calves. From Jökulsárlón you will continue east to Djúpivogur. Spend the night at Hotel Framtíð or similar. -Driving distance: 308 km.

Day 5: A scenic drive through fantastic fjords
On day five you will drive to the lovely Lake Mývatn. Along the way there’s plenty to see including the monster habitat, Lagarfljót River, Seyðisfjörður and Möðrudalur valley. Spend the night at Hotel Reykjahlíð or similar. -Driving distance: 384 km.

Day 6: Exploring the park life
This is your chance to explore Lake Mývatn area which is home to some staggering natural phenomena including Námaskarð and the pseudo-craters at Skútustaði. Today you will also have the change to visit Ásbyrgi canyon and Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Spend the night at Hotel Reykjahlíð or similar. -Driving distance: 183 km.+

Day 7: Waterfall of the Gods
The first half of day seven will be spent around Lake Mývatn. Don’t miss Goðafoss (the waterfall of the Gods) on your way to Akureyri, known as the ‘capital of the north’ where you will spend the rest of the day. You will stay at KEA Hotel Harpa or similar. -Driving distance: 103 km.

Day 8: Geological mysteries
Your drive from Akureyri to Stykkishólmur on the Snæfellsnes peninsula will take you past the peculiar hill formations of Vatnsdalshólar, the canyon waterfalls of Kolugljúfur and the Glaumbær folk museum where you can learn all about the local culture. Spend the night at Hotel Framnes or similar. -Driving distance: 411 km.

Day 9: Ocean views
Day nine will see you experiencing the unique Snæfellsjökull glacier and its surrounding National Park. Other sights, not to be missed, include Búðir, Hellnar, Arnarstapi and Dritvík cove. Marine wildlife lovers might also wish to go whale watching from Ólafsvík but please note that the distance between here and Reykjavík will mean a very long day on the road. Spend the night in central Reykjavik at Fosshotel Barón or similar. -Driving distance: 332 km.

Day 10: Time to go home
Time to head back home after your fantastic adventures in Iceland. Transfer to Keflavík Airport is not included

After booking a car rental package, you will be contacted within 2 working days by your designated travel consultant who will assist with your booking and serve as your point of contact for any travel needs during your stay. You will receive the full name and direct contact information for your travel consultant along with information about your booking, payment and what to expect. Your documents will be sent to your address but if booked with less than 30 days before arrival then it will be delivered to you your first hotel in Iceland

Our travel documents consist of: booking overview with information about all your services in Iceland; electronic vouchers for each of your services; map of Iceland with the route and highlights and accommodations marked; information booklet about driving in Iceland; and a detailed itinerary with information about the highlights in Iceland, optional activities and general information about travelling in Iceland. Recommended booking advance is three weeks minimum.

Accommodation
The hotels and guesthouses we offer are mostly in the 3-star range and the rooms are with private shower/WC. The hotels are a mixture of comfortable tourist class hotels, country hotels, farmhouses, and well-appointed guesthouses. All supply breakfast (included in price) and most have an on-site restaurant.

Please note that although we have included specific hotels within our holiday packages, these may be subject to change. We reserve the right to substitute a named property in the same locality for one of a similar standard or higher, and we will ensure that our clients are notified in advance of the departure date.

Hótel Framnes
This cosy waterfront hotel in the fishing village of Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula was built in 1954 originally as a fishermen’s hostel. All rentals include a standard insurance policy and include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Unlimited mileage, one driver and Icelandic VAT @ 25.5%. Fuel or oil is not included.

Optional insurance upgrade, additional drivers, child seat and GPS navigation system are available and payable locally at car rental office.

When staying in Reykjavik, you will be collected from your hotel between 09:00 and 10:00 on day 2 and taken to the car rental depot where you will complete the rental documentations, have the option of additional service and pick up your rental car.

Valid credit card is required by the car rental company. A credit card imprint will be taken at the start of all rentals for security reasons. Your voucher will covers the cost of the rental but the credit card imprint may be used to pay all extra charges or cost due to the use of the rented vehicle.

From 15 October to 15 April we recommend you to book E or F type 4X4 vehicle
