Tour Outline

Day 1:Arrival/Reykjavík
Arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Spend the night in central Reykjavik, at Fosshótel Barón or similar.
Transfer from the airport to Reykjavík is not included.

Day 2: The Golden Circle
In the morning, you will pick up your rental car. You have a full day´s drive ahead of you, taking in some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland. You start at Þingvellir, by the geographical rift between the American and European continents. This ancient venue of the world´s oldest parliament, the Alþingi, was recently placed on UNESCO´s world heritage list. Make a brief stop at the now dormant volcanic caldera, Kerið, on your way to the very active geothermal area around Geysir, where the hot springs spew their steaming water into the air. Your last stop on the Golden Circle is the breathtaking waterfall, Gullfoss. Spend the night at Hótel Höfðabrekka or similar. -Driving distance approx. 340 km.

Day 3: The South Coast
Today, you will reach Europe’s largest national park, Vatnajökull National Park. The shifting landscape, combined with the awesome presence of the snow-capped giant, Vatnajökull glacier, give this area its reputation as one of Iceland´s most beautiful places. After visiting the Skaftafell nature reserve and taking a walk along one of its countless paths, drive on to the extremely picturesque Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Your day ends in the beautiful village of Höfn, renowned in Iceland for its lobster fisheries. Spend the night at Hótel Höfn or similar. -Driving distance approx. 280 km.

Day 4: East Iceland
Enjoy the early morning in the South-East as you head north to your destination; Lake Mývatn. Around Mývatn, there are so many natural marvels—the Námaskarð pass with its bubbling mud pools, the “elfin lands” of the lava maze of Dimmuborgir, and the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðir. Spend the night at Hótel Reykjahlíð or similar. -Driving distance approx. 415 km.

Day 5: Lake Mývatn and Akureyri
An early breakfast leaves you more time to explore the otherworldly surroundings of Lake Mývatn, before driving on to Akureyri. Take a breather on your way and enjoy the panoramic view of the Goðafoss waterfall. Once you have reached your destination, we recommend that you set out on foot to explore “The Capital of the North”. Spend the night at KEA Hótel Harpa or similar. -Driving distance approx. 100 km.

Day 6: Back to the capital
Today, a drive from Akureyri back to Reykjavík awaits you. You will traverse Iceland from North to South, while enjoying a gradual shift in the stunningly diverse nature along the way. Watch for the Vatnsnes Peninsula, an excellent spot for catching a glimpse of seals along the coastline. Further on, stop and visit the crater Grábrók, and the waterfall Glanni. Spend the night in central Reykjavik, at Fosshótel Barón or similar. -Driving distance approx. 390 km.

Day 7: Departure
Time to head back home after your wondrous adventures in Iceland. Transfer to Keflavík Airport is not included.

Additional nights can be added in Reykjavík, upon request.
