WELCOME TO THE NORTH

Announcing the Iceland Photo Contest Winners!

What do friendly horses, lava formations, windswept beaches, steaming fumaroles and continental rift valleys all have in common? They’re all featured in the winning entries of this summer‘s Iceland Photo Contest!

Congratulations to Amy Norris, John Spiro, Henri Guze and Emily Rishel. (Their winning photos are below.) These lucky folks will receive gift certificates from Cintamani, a leading outdoor clothing company in Iceland.

In total, we received over 120 outstanding photos from customers around the world who had travelled to Iceland in July or August 2011. After much painstaking work by our judges to narrow the entries down to 10 finalists, the 5 winning photos were chosen by a staff vote.

Along with the great turnout, we were impressed by the diversity of the subjects: we had everything from rainbows to surfers, with plenty of interesting descriptions to match! We sincerely thank everyone who participated in our contest.

“We’ll never forget the friendly locals we met along the way!” (Amy Norris at Skagafjörður in North Iceland.)

“It was a cloudy day, and our travel plans had been disrupted because of the eruption. But we were all in a good mood and the kids were having a great time climbing and jumping. I think this picture captures the mood of excitement.” (Carina and Anna Spiro, ages 15 and 12, at Snæfellsjökull National Park. Their route was altered by Nordic Visitor due to the temporary road closure over the Múlakvísl River caused by a glacial flood in July.)
