Home to the raft made famous by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl
The Kon-Tiki Museum (“Kon-Tiki Museet”) celebrates the life and achievements of Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. Discover incredible stories about his voyage from Peru to Polynesia in 1947, as well as his brave attempt to sail from North Africa to the Caribbean in a vessel made of reeds.
You can view his original crafts, including the original Kon-Tiki balsa wood raft, the papyrus raft Ra II and a model of the Tigris boat. Other relics and films highlighting Thor’s work are also on display, including a beautiful model of a whale shark, representing the story of an encounter in the Pacific.
