Most of our couples spend about 7 to 21 days on their honeymoon in Europe. A week is enough to get a flavour of a country or region, like Norway’s fjords or Scotland’s Highlands.

Two weeks gives you time to linger and explore a country in more depth. Meanwhile, in 2–3 weeks, you could combine destinations, such as pairing Italy and France, or taking an extended grand tour of Scotland and Ireland.

Longer trips also leave room for days built in simply to relax, rather than sightsee.

May to September is best for warm weather and long days. Summer (June to August) brings the midnight sun to Iceland and Scandinavia, along with warm weather across Italy, France and Switzerland. Perfect for al fresco dining and lakeside strolls in national parks.

Spring (April and May) and autumn (September to mid-November) are often quieter than summer, but have milder weather. Meanwhile, the winter months of December to March are ideal for visiting Christmas markets, chasing the northern lights, and seeing Lapland blanketed in snow.

Depending on where you go and when, there’s a lot of variability when it comes to the weather in Europe. In general, though, it’s best to pack layers since conditions can shift quickly, especially in Northern Europe.

Central and Southern European countries like Switzerland, Italy and France tend to have more stable weather. And you’ll find it gets hot here between June and August.

Whenever you go, you’ll want to pack a comfortable pair of walking shoes, a day pack for your essentials, and luggage that’s easy to manoeuvre. Don’t forget to throw in some swimwear, whether it’s for an Icelandic hot spring, a Norwegian fjord, an Alpine lake, or a French beach.
