Spiritual solace and artistic wonder in the heart of Bergamo
Located in the centre of Bergamo, the grand Baroque dome of the ancient Bergamo Cathedral (“Duomo di Bergamo”) stands tall. This has been a religious site since at least the 9th century, and the church as you’ll see it today is dedicated to the city’s patron saint, Alexander of Bergamo.
You’ll find the elegant building in the Piazza Duomo, in Bergamo’s old centre, Città Alta (Upper Town). Admire the exterior with its atmospheric statues and glinting gold sculptures. Then, step inside, where you’ll find a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful decorations at every turn.
In fact, there are many great works of art on display inside the Duomo di Bergamo. Wander past the church pews to explore lavish side chapels, with paintings from the Renaissance, Rococo and Neoclassical eras on the wall.
