Close to the hustle and bustle of central Milan is a peaceful monument to Italy’s immeasurable artistic heritage. Within the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is the Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano, or Leonardo’s Last Supper Museum. It houses Da Vinci’s iconic masterpiece.

During World War II, Milan suffered bombardments, but the Last Supper miraculously survived. Sandbags piled high against the wall of the painting kept it safe, even when all the other walls of the refectory were destroyed.
