World-famous opera house with a stage to remember

In Lombardy’s culture-rich capital of Milan, the Teatro alla Scala is an unmissable sight. The “Theatre at the Scala” was first opened in 1778 and has held world-renowned shows ever since. Iconic composers including Verdi, Toscanini, Puccini and Rossini have had their works performed here, making La Scala a must-visit for opera lovers.

If you get tickets for a show, you’ll head through the lobby and take your seat in the grand interior. Plush red seats stand out against the gleaming gold trim of the light fixtures and balconies.

You can learn about the history of theatre and opera in Italy in the attached museum, Museo Teatrale alla Scala. Read about how the opera house was first designed and built and immerse yourself in the lives of some of the most famous performers from La Scala’s history.
