Sweeping, cable-car views at this castle town on Garda's shore
On the northwest bank of Lake Garda sits a charming Italian settlement named Malcesine. It is on an official list of “I Borghi più belli d'Italia”, or “most beautiful villages of Italy”.
You’ll find it easy to admire the vibrant beauty when exploring these town streets. Malcesine is also the perfect base for enjoying some water sports on Italy’s largest lake.
One of the most famous attractions in Malcesine is Scaligero Castle. You’re sure to spot the compact-yet-elegant fortress as you explore the town.
You can enter the castle to discover museums about the local geography and climb its nearly 1,000-year-old white stone tower. The bell here has been in use since 1442.
Just above Malcesine stands Monte Baldo. From the village level, you can board a cable car. Let yourself be carried up into the peaks, where views of Lake Garda, surrounded by mountain peaks, will take your breath away.
