After landing at the Ilulissat Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation where you will spend the next 4 nights. You’ll also enjoy a guided city walk to get to know the town then an included 2-course dinner at your hotel.

  • Day 2: Explore Ilulissat as you wish

Today’s yours to explore Ilulissat at your own pace. Wander through the town centre to see the colourful houses and visit Zion’s Church, one of the most photographed buildings in Greenland. You could also explore the small museum to learn about local history and the famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen, who was born here.

For a closer look at the Icefjord, walk along the wooden boardwalk that leads to stunning viewpoints overlooking the massive icebergs.

    Spend another night in Ilulissat.

Note: We recommend booking the optional activities in advance through your travel consultant at Nordic Visitor, though you may also book activities at your hotel in Ilulissat during your stay.

  • Day 3: Enjoying Arctic adventures

Today you could add optional activities to your itinerary (optional). You could spend the day at the Ilimanaq settlement, which is a short boat ride from Ilulissat. Here you can learn more about its history and inhabitants, explore the beautiful nature of the region.

Your second option is to spend the day by the Eqi Glacier. The beauty of this stay lies in its incredible views of the glacial tongue and icebergs breaking away into the ocean.

You can also spend another day exploring Ilulissat or going on a day trip offered by our local partner.

    Spend another night in Ilulissat.

  • Day 4: Free time in Ilulissat

Enjoy another day in beautiful Ilulissat – ideal for more fun optional activities. For a truly incredible experience, we recommend an evening boat tour in the Icefjord. You’ll sail among towering icebergs as big as office buildings under the rosy glow of the midnight sun.

Today, you will board a flight to your next Greenlandic destination, the small and friendly capital city of Nuuk. Upon arrival, you will take a taxi to your hotel. Then, the rest of the day is free for you to spend at your leisure.

Start with a stroll through the old colonial harbour area, where brightly painted houses line the waterfront against a backdrop of dramatic mountains. Here you’ll find the iconic Nuuk Cathedral, a distinctive red wooden church dating to 1849.

Today, you’ll fly from Nuuk to Qaqortoq in the south, including a transfer to your hotel on arrival. Qaqortoq is often described as the most beautiful town in Greenland. That’s thanks to its stunning surroundings – it’s nestled between the Tasermiut fjord and Tasersuaq lake.

Explore Qaqortoq by yourself and then enjoy a guided city walk. You’ll get to admire stone sculptures and carvings dotted around the town. Plus, you’ll get an insight into the history of Qaqortoq, giving you a greater understanding of the customs and lifestyle in southern Greenland.

A boat tour to Eriksfjord, also known as Tunulliarfik, is a great optional activity. The fjord is named after Erik the Red, a Norse explorer whose farm you can even visit here. Erik controlled the Nordic settlements in Greenland and his son, Leif, went on to be the first European explorer in North America.

You could also head further afield on a boat tour to see Qooroq ice fjord. If you enjoy hiking, guided walks on the ice cap are also available.

    Spend another night in Qaqortoq.

Because of its northerly location, close to the Arctic Circle, Greenland enjoys long days throughout the summer.

Around the summer solstice, you’ll experience almost 24 hours of daylight. This phenomenon, known as the midnight sun, occurs within the Arctic Circle and is when the sun doesn’t fully set below the horizon for weeks at a time.

These long daylight hours give you plenty of time to explore. That said, you may want to pack a sleeping mask if you are a light sleeper or tend to wake up at dawn.

The summer climate in Greenland is generally mild and dry with average daytime temperatures of 5–10° C (41–50° F). It’s worth noting that the weather can change suddenly so we recommend bringing warm, waterproof outerwear, thermal layers and good hiking boots and/or rubber boots. It’s also a good idea to bring mosquito repellent and sunglasses.

Even in summertime, Greenland’s climate can feel cool. As you’ll probably spend a lot of time outdoors, you should be ready for a variety of weather conditions. Here is a recommended summer packing list for your trip to Greenland:

• Durable insulated jacket
• Rain gear, including sturdy wind and waterproof layers, like a jacket and trousers
• Robust walking shoes with a good grip
• Mid-layers such as a fleece or woollen jumper
• A few pairs of warm hiking socks
• Hat, gloves and scarf
• Backpack for daily adventures
• Electronic equipment such as smartphone, external powerpack, and travel adapters
• Reusable water bottle
• Sunglasses, sunscreen and eye mask for the summer sun
• And don’t forget your camera!

The currency in Greenland is Danish Krone (DKK). We recommend bringing some local cash with you, or a debit card (bank card) with a 4-digit PIN number for withdrawals at ATM machines.

It’s best to book as soon as you can to secure your preferred travel dates. Once you have picked your tour, check the availability calendar to see which months are open for booking. Then, select the date you want and complete your booking.

As this package is subject to availability, please wait for a confirmation email from your travel consultant before booking your flights to Iceland.

If you have time, enjoy one final stroll around town or do some last-minute souvenir shopping before leaving Greenland.

No need! Nordic Visitor is already working on offsetting the estimated carbon footprint of your package. We’ve partnered with an environmental fund in Iceland to carbon offset all our tours.

Carbon offsetting your international flights is not included, but we highly recommend you look into possibilities with your airline or directly through a local environment fund.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Excellent tour arrangements

We had two different countries in our tour package. Iceland and all the tour arrangements from Nordic Visitor were excellent. The quality of the hotel accommodation was very good. We would have liked to stay at small guest houses sometimes rather than the large hotels, but maybe they were not available. Our car hire experience was mostly good. Our holiday in Greenland was also very good, but there were a couple of things we wanted to pass on to you. Flying from Ilulissat to Nuuk, we didn't realise there were two flights with a change at Kangerlussuaq. It was the same when we flew to Narsarsuaq. We had to take another flight from Paamiut. That was ok but we didn't know and the notes didn't tell us!

Great experience

It was a great experience I would repeat and do more. Everyone was so helpful and kind.

Accommodation

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.

Comfort Plus

Standard rooms in good quality and comfortable three-star hotels in combination with well-appointed guesthouses or country hotels.
