Iconic route on Italy’s western edge

The Amalfi Coast unfurls like a Mediterranean masterpiece along southern Italy's Sorrentine Peninsula. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage coastline which represents the pinnacle of natural beauty overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. The Amalfi Cost stretches just over 50 kilometres (30 miles) from Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare to the east.

In total, it encompasses 16 towns and villages clinging to impossible cliffsides. Along the way, you’ll also enjoy views over citrus fruit and olive tree terraces, beaches and incredible caves. This is where the natural landscape merges with human ingenuity, established over centuries.

The legendary Amalfi drive winds precariously along clifftops, revealing breathtaking vistas at every hairpin turn. Start your journey early and take your time to enjoy it. Terraced lemon groves cascade toward the sea, creating the distinctive landscape that produces Italy's finest limoncello.

Each coastal town possesses unique character whilst sharing the same dramatic DNA. Key stops include Positano, tumbling photogenically down toward the sea, and Amalfi, boasting medieval cathedral grandeur. But don’t miss Vietri sul Mare’s colourful houses and Cetara’s atmosphere, which will make you feel like you stepped back in time.

While you’re travelling through the Amalfi region, don’t forget to taste the local flavours. The lemons are world-famous of course, but also indulge in some wine (if you’re not driving!) and the traditional dish of 'ndunderi di Minori (a sort of ricotta gnocchi).
