Italy at a glance

Italy offers you unrivalled cultural experiences, urban architecture, natural beauty, and culinary excellence. Travel from the Alps in the north, through Tuscan vineyards, to Rome and beyond. Its stunning history and welcoming people await you.

Why visit Italy?

On a Nordic Visitor adventure through Italy, you can visit stunning mountains, beautiful coastline, and fragrant vineyards. Each of Italy’s regions are rich in culture and brimming with spectacular scenery.

As you traverse the country by rail or car, you can see what makes these regions unique from one another, as well as what they share in common.

You can stop off in chic and buzzing cities, such as Milan, Rome, Naples and Venice, to discover the rich and varied cultures of Italy. There are museums to explore, cobblestone streets to stroll down, and plenty of souvenir shops to bag a memento from your trip.

What really sets this land apart from other destinations is the package of its landscapes, architecture and cuisine. There are immense mountains, glittering lakes and pastel-coloured seaside villages. There’s renaissance and ancient architecture, endless works of art, and delicious local ingredients around every corner.

How to get to Italy

Your Nordic Visitor adventure will start in Milan, Venice or Rome. There’s plenty of choice of international carriers to take you there, including British Airways, KLM, American Airlines and Qatar among many more.

You’ll find it easy to reach the city centres and your accommodation, as airports are generally well connected to their respective cities. You can book a private transfer or use the convenient public transport.

Getting around

Once you’ve arrived in the Italy, you’ll soon see how easy it is to get around.

In fact, the travel itself is part of what makes Italy so amazing. Experience the freedom of driving through magnificent countryside on a self-drive tour. You can take the road trip at your own pace and stop as often as you want to.

English isn’t as widely spoken in Italy as it is elsewhere in Europe, which means you might get the chance to dive into the local language. With that said, most young people and people in service jobs should know English to a basic standard. See more about the languages spoken in Italy to learn a few useful words.

When to visit

There’s no bad time to visit Italy. When you decide to come just depends on what you’d like to do while you’re here.

June, July or August are your best bet if you want to spend time hiking in the mountains, hit the seaside spots or go swimming in the lakes. The weather tends to be the best at this time of year, affording you incredible views as you embark on your excursions.

The shoulder months – May, April, September and October – are favourites among visitors who want to experience Italy in generally nice weather, but with fewer crowds.
