World-famous mountain featured in a James Bond movie

In the heart of Switzerland’s Bernese Alps, you’ll find Mt. Schilthorn. While it might not be as well-known as some of its neighbours – the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – the Schilthorn has its own claim to fame.

Plus, you’ll get unrivalled views of these iconic peaks from the Schilthorn’s Piz Gloria station and panoramic platform. Located at 2,970 metres (9,744 feet) above sea level, on a clear day, you’ll be able to soak up jaw-dropping scenes for miles around.

The Piz Gloria station is also home to a revolving restaurant which slowly rotates so you can enjoy the 360° view. Just imagine gazing out at a changing vista of glistening glaciers and snow-capped mountains while you eat.

If this all sounds like something that’s straight out of a film, then you’d be right. The Schilthorn was used as a filming location for the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

You can visit by taking a series of short but scenic gondola rides from Stechelberg in the Lauterbrunnen valley below. You’ll travel via Mürren village and Birg station before arriving at Schilthorn’s Piz Gloria station.
