Itinerary

A day-by-day plan to guide your journey.

  • Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavík

Touch down in Iceland! A driver will meet you at the airport to take you straight to the colourful capital, Reykjavík. Though small, this city is bursting with cultural attractions.

Start with a stroll up Rainbow Street, ending at the towering Hallgrímskirkja church. Explore quirky boutiques along Laugavegur Street, then walk to the coast to admire the Sun Voyager sculpture and striking Harpa Concert Hall.

Don’t miss Perlan, a museum where interactive exhibits bring Iceland’s natural wonders to life. Then take your pick from the city’s world-class restaurants for your evening meal.

    Spend the night in Reykjavík.

    Estimated travel duration: 50 minutes

  • Day 2: The Golden Circle

Hit the road to discover Iceland’s world-famous Golden Circle route. Your first stop is the incredible Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk between 2 tectonic plates.

Continue to the Haukadalur geothermal area to see the famous Geysir and its active neighbour, Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes.

After marvelling at the clouds of steam, head on to Gullfoss, a dramatic 2-tiered waterfall that plunges into a rocky valley. Round off this epic day at Kerið crater, the site of a past volcanic explosion, now home to a beautiful glacial blue lake.

Spend the night in the Hvolsvöllur area.

Average driving distance: 240 km / 150 mi

  • Day 3: Waterfalls, black sands & bubbling hot springs

Begin at the fairytale-like Seljalandsfoss waterfall, then visit the thundering 60-metre (197-foot) Skógafoss falls. Continue to Reynisfjara black sand beach*, where you can stroll the inky shore and admire the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations.

On your way back west, detour to the Reykjanes peninsula, famed for its volcanic activity. It’s safe to explore – just keep to marked paths. Discover steaming vents and bubbling hot springs at Krýsuvík and Seltún, then visit Reykjanes lighthouse and the Gunnuhver geothermal area.

Before heading back to the city, why not embrace the volcanic magic of the peninsula with an optional visit to the iconic Blue Lagoon?

    Spend the night in Reykjavík.

Average driving distance (incl. Reykjanes Peninsula): 390 km / 240 mi

*Extreme caution is needed when visiting the Reynisfjara black sand beach due to the rogue “sneaker” waves. Keep a safe distance from the ocean at all times.

  • Day 4: Departure from Iceland

It’s your last day in Iceland! If your flight is in the afternoon, enjoy some final sightseeing around Reykjavík. Pick up a souvenir or try a famous hot dog.

You might even fit in a visit to the Sky Lagoon, if time allows. It’s the perfect way to relax ahead of your flight.

When it’s time to leave, a shared transfer will collect you from your accommodation and take you directly to Keflavík Airport.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Well planned

Very well planned and arranged tour. The map and booklet we received upon arrival were excellent. The only item which could be improved was the car hire drop off as we had to walk back to the hotel after.

Everything went according to plan

Everything went according to plan. The Nordic Visitor travel consultant customised some things for us that worked out well.

Enjoyed the trip experience

I very much enjoyed the trip experience, and am glad I used Nordic Visitor instead of trying to do it all myself.

Nordic Visitor made it easy

Booking the services of airport transfer, rental car and accommodation was so helpful. I used this service because I had difficulty finding these resources on my own and Nordic Visitor made it easy. I also liked the highlighted map you gave. The book was a bit overwhelming and it would have been nice to have in advance to aid in planning the stops we would make.

Awesome

Both the agents I worked with were awesome. They handled all the details and answered my questions promptly. They did a very good job.

Our travel advisor was attentive

Sotiria was an attentive travel advisor when she had time to communicate. She was not available to help us when we had questions after we actually got to Iceland, but her associates were able to cheerfully help, which demonstrated very nice teamwork. Our experience with Nordic Visitor was very good to excellent, and I would use the service again. Magma Hotel was an outstanding experience! Beautiful, unique setting and spanking new cottage with "modern" turf roof, excellent restaurant - perhaps the best we experienced, even better than Reykjavík, and friendly service. I would advise friends to stay there and would return myself.
