Clifftop lemon groves and citrus-scented lakeviews
Limone sul Garda is a picturesque village on the northwestern shore of Lake Garda. It is a delightful blend of stunning landscapes, charming streets and a serene atmosphere. Limone is exactly what you might picture when thinking of a traditional Italian lakeside spot. In fact, many say it is the prettiest village in all the Lake Garda area.
What most famously characterises Limone sul Garda is its vibrant lemon groves and lush Mediterranean vegetation. This might give you a clue to the meaning of the village’s name! But the word, as well as meaning “lemon”, also comes from the Latin word for “border”. This is because Limone was the region’s last village before reaching the nearby Trento.
Walking through Limone sul Garda feels like stepping back in time. Discover narrow, winding streets leading to quaint squares filled with colourful buildings adorned with flowers. The village exudes a tranquil, laid-back vibe.
Pass by the Church of San Benedetto, which dates back to the 10th century, and the Church of San Rocco, offering panoramic views of the lake from its entrance way.
The waterfront promenade, Via Lungolago Guglielmo Marconi, is especially enchanting for a sunset walk. It offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The promenade is also lined with shops, cafés and restaurants, ideal for enjoying a bite to eat al fresco.
You’ll also want to take the time to walk up to the Limonaia del Castel, an old lemon house turned museum. It provides insight into the village’s citrus-growing history. Or learn about the fishing history of Limone at the Museo dei Pescatori (“Museum of Fishermen”).
