Visit the "backbone" of Norway

The Dovrefjell–Sunndalsfjella National Park lies along the high Dovrefjell mountain chain, considered to be the "backbone" of Norway. You’ll find the park’s entrance in the town of Dombås, an intersection of local roads and a useful interchange for public transport.

Dovrefjell is home to wolverines, elk, wild reindeer, lynx, golden eagles, arctic foxes and a rare herd of musk oxen. Extinct in Europe after the last Ice Age, musk oxen were reintroduced from Greenland, and today Dovrefjell is the only place in Norway to see them in the wild.

This area is also an ideal destination for activities like hiking, biking and cross-country skiing, as well as specialised guided musk ox safaris.
