Experience the dramatic scenery that has charmed visitors for over 100 years
One of Norway’s most celebrated fjord destinations, the tiny village of Flåm is nestled in the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord. It’s a paradise for nature lovers, framed by steep mountainsides, roaring waterfalls and deep valleys.
A major highlight of the popular Norway in a Nutshell® journey between Oslo and Bergen, its most famous landmark today is the Flåm railway. Built in the 1920s and 30s to link the fjord to the highland station of Myrdal, this feat of engineering climbs nearly 900 metres (2,950 feet) through tunnels and wild scenery.
Depending on the length of your visit, there are several attractions and activities to enjoy here. Check out the 17th century Flåm church, the historic Fretheim Hotel, the Aegir Microbrewery and Restaurant, and the Flåm Railway Museum. There are also many incredible routes to hike in the Flåm valley and surrounding mountains.
