Charming village surrounded by mountains
The mountain village of Geilo is one of the largest and oldest ski resorts in Scandinavia. It’s a popular winter destination for alpine and cross-country skiing, as well as dog sledding and tobogganing. Geilo’s history is closely tied to tourism and the tradition of mountain cabins, reflecting Norway’s long love of “friluftsliv,” or open-air living.
You can ski or snowboard in winter, enjoy cross-country trails, or hike the surrounding mountains in summer. Mountain biking, fishing and canoeing are popular, and cosy lodges and cafés offer a warm retreat after a day outdoors. Guided tours give local insights into the landscape, wildlife and history.
