Come visit one of Norway's historic open-air museums

Gol lies in the heart of the Hallingdal district, surrounded by rolling hills, rivers, and traditional farms. Its central location makes it a gateway to the mountains and a base for exploring Norway’s scenic valleys and ski resorts.

The village is home to an impressive replica of Gol Stave Church, a 13th-century wooden church that was carefully reconstructed to preserve the community’s medieval heritage*. The area reflects Norway’s rural traditions and offers a glimpse into life in the valleys over the centuries.

Visitors can explore local history at the stave church, wander the streets lined with traditional wooden houses, or enjoy nearby hiking and cycling trails. In winter, cross-country skiing and nearby ski slopes provide plenty of outdoor options. Local shops and cafés offer regional crafts, food and a warm welcome.
