Village amidst a charming setting of mountains

Lom is a picturesque village in Jotunheimen, nicknamed the “Home of the Giants”. There’s a little more than meets the eye to this town, as it’s not just about the scenery.

Fittingly enough with a nickname like that, Lom is surrounded by Norway’s tallest peaks. From here, you’ll easily access incredible hikes, and discover the heart of Norway’s elaborate mountaineering history, making it an ideal stop before Jotunheimen National Park.

Lom is also well known for its impressive 12th-century timber stave church. Complete with dragon-head carvings and steeply slanted roofs, it remains one of the largest and best-preserved stave churches in Norway. You’re sure to love its rather spooky atmosphere – in fact, you might say it’s a cross between a Viking chieftain’s hall and a religious building.

Geology enthusiasts will love a visit to the Fossheim Mineral Museum ("Fossheim Steinsenter") for its collection of gemstones, minerals, handmade jewellery and fossils. During the high season, they even leave a pile of off-cuts outside for visitors to help themselves to. Why not grab something glittering as a nice unique souvenir?
