Edinburgh's Forth Railway Bridge is an architectural marvel and a major icon of modern Scotland. This distinctive red bridge, which towers over the Firth of Forth, opened to great acclaim in 1890 as the world’s first major steel edifice. Today it carries around 200 local trains across the Forth every day and forms a key part of a national rail line.

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of this pinnacle in engineering and design, the Forth Railway Bridge was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2015. You can catch a view of this beauty as you drive over the Forth Road Bridge, which runs parallel, on your way out of the city.
