Relax in soothing geothermal waters
North Iceland’s answer to the Blue Lagoon, Earth Lagoon offers you an indulgent relaxation experience amongst otherworldly scenery. The warm waters and soothing steam are all heated entirely by geothermal energy, making this spa the perfect spot to experience the restorative powers of Iceland’s nature.
This enchanting attraction is built upon the Hverir geothermal area, close to the vast Lake Mývatn. Icelanders living in North Iceland, where conditions can sometimes be harsh, have enjoyed the natural warmth and health benefits of Hverir’s pools and steam for generations. It was from this inspiration that Earth Lagoon was designed and built.
Of course, not all volcanic hot pools are safe to approach, but the waters of Earth Lagoon are heated to a perfect bathing temperature of between 36–40°C (97–104°F). Soak in the sulphur-rich and naturally alkaline pools and feel your skin and mind soothed by nature’s power.
Earth Lagoon also offers steam baths, which is their term for saunas. Taking a “steam bath” near Lake Mývatn has even been mentioned in traditional Icelandic Sagas, dating back over 1,000 years. Also heated by geothermal energy, the saunas have an average temperature of around 45°C (113°F).
Before your soak, make use of the Earth Lagoon’s spacious changing and shower facilities, which include locally made shampoo, conditioner and body wash. And whilst you’re in the waters, don’t forget to enjoy a refreshing drink from the swim-up bar.
