Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, stretches 205 kilometres (127 miles) from the village of Skjolden to the North Sea near Balestrand. It reaches a maximum depth of 1,308 metres (4,291 feet), with towering cliffs, waterfalls and steep valleys on all sides. 

The fjord has been a vital artery for trade, travel and settlement for centuries. Villages, historic farms and old churches line its shores, reflecting a rich cultural and maritime history.

2 of its branches, Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord, are UNESCO World Heritage sites, celebrated for their natural beauty and well-preserved traditional communities. You can take fjord cruises, kayak among cliffs, or hike a network of mountain trails for panoramic views here.
