Sweden, situated between its neighbours Norway and Finland in Northern Europe, is best-known for being the land of Nobel prizes and chic home décor. You’ll soon discover, though, that the country’s fantastic natural beauty, rich history and relaxed culture really set it apart.

From rugged coastlines to lush greenery, Sweden’s unspoilt nature is majestic. It’s no wonder that the Swedes are known for enjoying the outdoors. They take full advantage of it and always disappear to their summer houses when the good weather arrives.

There are thousands of connected islands and tranquil lakes across the country. Stockholm, the Swedish capital, is itself built across 14 different islands. The city’s different districts are connected by bridges across Lake Mälaren.

With a population of nearly 10 million, Sweden has the most residents of any Scandinavian country. The three biggest cities are Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö, all along the southern coast. In the north, Sweden stretches into the Arctic Circle, where communities of native Sámi people live.
