Impressionist art in a former train station

A work of art before you step inside? That’s the Musée d’Orsay. A masterpiece in itself – housed in a stunning Beaux-Arts railway station on the Left Bank of the Seine. Here, you’ll find the world’s finest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.

The light-filled galleries showcase works by icons such as Monet, Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh and Cézanne. Don’t miss Monet’s Impressionist landscapes or Van Gogh’s swirling brushwork.

You’ll recognise paintings you’ve seen on postcards and posters – but seeing them in person is that bit more special. But that’s not all. There’s much, much more.

Walk amongst the frozen creations of the sculpture collection. It’s equally impressive. Rodin’s dramatic pieces stand alongside works by Ernest Barrias and Camille Claudel. Or get a behind-the-scenes experience with pieces from the drawings and pastels collections.

Here’s an insider tip: head up to the giant clock for killer views over the Seine toward Montmartre. It's Instagram gold and a lovely breather between galleries.

Grab your tickets online to skip the queues – they can be lengthy, especially in summer. Weekday mornings are your friend for smaller crowds. Give yourself at least 2-3 hours, though art lovers could happily spend a whole afternoon here.
