What to expect on your journey with Norway in a Nutshell® by Fjord Tours from Bergen
Four legs, one unforgettable route. Here’s what’s ahead.
Bergen
Bergen – tucked between the country’s longest fjord, Sognefjord, and the majestic Hardangerfjord – calls itself the “Capital of the Fjords”. Wander the UNESCO-listed Bryggen harbour, all colourful wooden facades, and ride the Fløibanen Funicular up to the peak of Mount Fløyen for a view over the whole city.
The Bergen Railway
Board the Bergensbanen at Bergen’s train station and watch the city fall away behind you. This scenic train climbs through forested valleys and past glacial lakes on one of Norway’s greatest train rides, all the way to Voss.
The Fjord cruise
From Voss, a coach carries you through the Nærøydalen Valley to Gudvangen harbour. Board a ferry into the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord – Europe’s narrowest, most beautiful fjord – before sailing on into the Aurlandsfjord. Two hours of sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and farms clinging to impossible slopes.
The Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana)
In the village of Flåm, you switch trains onto one of the world’s steepest railway lines. The climb to Myrdal gains 866 metres (2,841 feet) in just 20 kilometres (12 miles). At Myrdal, you rejoin the Bergen Railway for the final stretch of train rides into Oslo, crossing Hardangervidda – Europe’s highest mountain plateau – through the villages of Geilo and Gol.
