2. What’s the best time of year to visit the Amalfi Coast?
April to October is the season for Amalfi Coast tours, with May, June and September offering the ideal balance – warm enough to swim, and a little quieter than the height of summer.
July and August are the busiest months on the coast. If you’re travelling then, book accommodation early and plan to explore Positano or Amalfi town in the early morning or evening to get the most out of each place.

3. Is the Amalfi Coast a good place for couples and honeymooners?
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most romantic destinations in Europe.
Capri feels like stepping into the pages of a glossy travel magazine. Positano is made for long evenings at a table with a view, and Sorrento is the kind of town where you’ll want to linger over a limoncello as the sun goes down.
Plus, this trip combines the Amalfi Coast with Rome, which is bursting at the seams with old-world charm.

4. What type of accommodation is included?
We select handpicked hotels throughout – characterful, well-located properties chosen for quality and a genuine sense of place. Breakfast is included every morning.
You’ll spend your first night in Rome, one night in Naples, and 4 nights in Sorrento – an excellent base for exploring the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Capri and Herculaneum.
5. How does renting a car work in Italy?
Book a self-drive tour of Italy with us and we’ll handle everything for you. We arrange a reliable car through one of our trusted rental partners. It comes with unlimited mileage, CDW insurance and a second driver included – so you can share the driving.
You pick up the car in Rome at the start of the tour and return it at Naples Airport.
6. Is there anything I need to know about driving in Italy?
A couple of things worth knowing. Italy has ZTL zones – restricted traffic areas in parts of historic city centres, including areas of Rome and Amalfi town. Your hotel will usually advise on where to park, and our travel documents include guidance on this too.
Italian motorways use a toll system, payable by card or cash.

7. Can I extend the tour or add more time in Italy?
Absolutely. Many travellers add extra nights in Rome to visit the Vatican, take a cooking class, or simply explore the city at a slower pace. You can also extend your time in Sorrento.
Share your travel wish list with our Rome team – they’ll do their best to craft an itinerary to match.
8. What optional activities can I add?
You can add a range of optional extras to your tour.
For instance, if you’re setting off from Rome, why not try the guided tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, or an Italian cooking class? You could also streamline your arrival in the city by asking us to set up private airport transfers.
Meanwhile, for the Amalfi Coast part of your itinerary, you can choose from activities, such as
We recommend booking extras at the same time as your tour to secure your place – popular experiences do fill up.
9. What should I pack for an Amalfi Coast road trip?
Light, breathable clothing is the mainstay for travelling between April and October. Comfortable walking shoes are essential – exploring Rome, Pompeii, and the coastal towns of the Amalfi Coast will involve a lot of time on foot.
A few other things worth packing: a light rain layer, sun cream, and a reusable water bottle. A compact day bag for excursions to Capri or Herculaneum, where you’ll leave the car behind, will also come in handy.
