In Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Oslo, expect capital-city polish: design museums, waterfront dining, and royal history around every corner. Iceland is a different rhythm altogether – black sand beaches, geothermal pools, and roads that run past volcanoes rather than palaces.

Yes. Most of our Scandinavia and Iceland tours link all 4 countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland) on one route, usually starting in Stockholm and finishing in Reykjavík.

Sweden and Denmark connect by train, Denmark and Norway by overnight cruise, and Norway to Iceland by a 2.5-hour flight.

Some longer journeys go further still, adding Finland and Estonia into the mix. If you’d rather focus on 2 or 3 countries, shorter versions of these routes are available too. Just ask your travel consultant for advice on the best itinerary for you.

That depends on whether you’d rather drive yourself or let a local guide lead the way. Between May and September, Iceland’s roads are free of snow, and Norway's ferries operate their full summer timetables.

Come mid-summer, days barely get dark around the solstice. This is the perfect time of year for hiking, kayaking, dining al fresco, and just spending as much time outdoors as possible. 

Between October and April, some regions will be blanketed in snow, and the weather can be unpredictable. This means that our partially guided departures take over in winter.

Join a guided tour of Iceland's Golden Circle or the south coast, and chase the northern lights. Meanwhile, in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Bergen, green parks are dusted in snow, festive markets twinkle, and the sun sets early.

A partially guided tour swaps the self-drive leg of the journey in Iceland for small-group excursions with a local guide, covering the Golden Circle, the south coast, and the northern lights. This is the best way to explore if you’d rather sit back and let someone else handle the driving.

A self-drive itinerary hands you the keys instead, so you can linger longer at the spots that catch your eye. Both include the same train and cruise route through Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

Check flight options ahead of time to get a sense of availability and prices, but wait to book until after your tour is confirmed.

Yes. Extra nights can be added at the start and end of your tour, in Stockholm, Reykjavík or anywhere in between.

The weather in Scandinavia and Iceland can be temperamental year-round. With conditions shifting quickly between cities and coastlines, sometimes within the same afternoon, it’s best to be prepared for all weathers.

This checklist is a good starting point:

• Warm jumper or fleece
• Thermal layers
• Waterproof jacket and trousers
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Swimwear, for geothermal pools and lagoons
• Small day bag or rucksack
• Binoculars, for spotting wildlife and the northern lights
