Glamorous fishing village turned playground
Saint-Tropez glitters, a jewel in the crown of the French Riviera. Once a fishing town, it’s better known today as a playground for the wealthy.
Fishermen cast their nets here in peace until the 1950s, when Brigitte Bardot filmed And God Created Woman here. Then the world wanted in. Artists, actors, and jetsetters descended and the town was transformed. Despite everything, Saint-Tropez managed to keep its charm.
The Vieux-Port still anchors everything – pastel houses curving around the harbour, fishing boats bobbing alongside superyachts worth millions. Café terraces face the water. Rest your legs here, people-watching as you do.
The Citadel crowns the hill above town, a 17th-century fortress offering panoramic views across terracotta rooftops to the Mediterranean beyond. Inside, you’ll find a maritime museum that chronicles Saint-Tropez's seafaring history throughout the years.
You’ll find Pampelonne beach stretching south of the town. Expect 5 kilometres (3 miles) of white sand, legendary beach clubs like Club 55, and turquoise water that lives up to the hype. Some sections are free to access. Others charge entry fees that will make your eyes water.
