Birds & history in the Westfjords

Vigur is the second largest island of the Ísafjörður Bay. It is a lovely island, rich in eider ducks and puffins and very popular with tourists. The island is about 2 kilometres long and 400 metres wide and is home to many historic buildings including the only surviving windmill in Iceland, built in 1860.

You can also see the country’s oldest 8-oar row boat, which is still in use.
