A SMALL TOWN WITH A LOT OF HISTORY

Kinsale is a quaint town in the south of Ireland blessed with a fascinating history. Many of the 18th-century buildings are still intact, giving the town its old-time charm. You’ll want to have a wander around the colourful houses, pubs and narrow lanes.

The picturesque harbour of Kinsale used to be an important naval port for over 500 years. It served to import wine and other products from mainland Europe, as they would arrive into Ireland through Kinsale.

It may surprise you to learn that Kinsale used to be an English town. From the 1600s up until the 18th century, the Irish were not allowed to live here.

While you’re visiting, make sure to grab a bite at one of the many restaurants to taste the fresh local seafood.

You can also visit the Garden of Remembrance, a tribute to the work of the New York fire service during 11 September 2001. You can admire a stirring view of the surroundings from this point.

In the town centre, you may be able to spot the busts of two local Antarctic pioneers, Timothy and Mortimer McCarthy.
