A CHARMING TOWN WITH LITERARY TIES
Set against the sweeping backdrop of Galway Bay, Kinvara is where life slows down. This was once a busy trading spot, and while you can still feel that history in the harbour, these days it’s a quaint fishing village. Today it’s got a warm, easy-going charm all its own.
If you visit, take your time wandering the town’s colourful streets. You’ll spot fishing boats bobbing in the harbour and locals are always happy to stop for a chat. Look out for the Merriman Hotel, home to the biggest thatched roof in Ireland, and well worth a photo.
Just north of the village is one of Kinvara’s true highlights: Dunguaire Castle. This beautifully preserved 16th-century tower house sits right on the water’s edge. And it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most photographed castles in the west of Ireland.
