Malahide Castle

VISIT AN 800-YEAR-OLD CASTLE AND ITS LUSH GARDENS

A short drive from Dublin, lies the popular seaside resort of Malahide.

One of the main highlights of visiting Malahide is its beautiful castle and gardens. Located on the southwestern edge of the town, Malahide Castle is an 800-year-old residence that was once gifted to the Talbot family.

Richard Talbot received the land as a gift from King Henry II in the 12^th century. The original building was wooden until a stone structure was built on the current site of the castle.

The building that you can visit today features aspects from different time periods. From Medieval to Georgian times, the castle was adapted and extended. This makes a visit of the castle a true walk through time.

A highlight of visiting Malahide Castle is the impressive Great Hall. It is, in fact, the only one in Ireland that has preserved its medieval features.

The castle also houses a section of the National Portrait Gallery, which is an integral part of the National Gallery of Dublin.

You can also enjoy a nice nature walk around the parkland and gardens surrounding the castle. See if you can spot some of the 5,000 plant varieties around the property.
