A STUNNING WORLD HERITAGE SITE AND ICONIC FILM LOCATION

The Skellig Islands sit approximately 12 kilometres (8 miles) off Ireland’s southwest coast. Travel the Ring of Kerry and you’ll be treated to stunning views of these islands. Or for an even closer look take a boat trip around them.

The largest of the two Skellig Islands, Skellig Michael, is one of Ireland’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Skellig Michael is of particular religious significance as it was the site of a monastic settlement founded by St Finan. Nowadays, all that remains are the rocky ruins of the monks’ beehive-shaped huts (or “clochain” in Gaelic).

If you’re a Star Wars fan, you might recognise the islands as a filming location for scenes from The Last Jedi.

If you’d like to take a boat trip around Skellig Michael, we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. You can add this excursion to some Nordic Visitor tours as an optional extra. Please note that all tours are dependent on the sea conditions.
