Corrieshalloch Gorge

View Photos

Visit this 61-metre-deep gorge created by glacial meltwater.

The Corrieshalloch Gorge is a 200-foot deep (61 m) gorge created by glacial meltwaters and is the finest example of a box canyon in Britain. The centrepiece of the gorge is the stunning 150-foot high (46 m) Falls of Measach. The whole area is a protected nature reserve.

Fans of Edinburgh’s Forth Railway Bridge will appreciate the suspension bridge over the gorge, built by one of the Forth Bridge’s designers, John Fowler. It provides unobstructed views into the gorge and the inaccessible ravine far below. Another viewing platform further downstream provides a different view of the gorge and its falls.
