Learn what plugs are used in France and other useful tips
France runs on the standard European setup: 230 volts, 50Hz. If you're travelling from the USA, Canada, or anywhere else with different electrical standards, you'll need a converter or transformer for smaller appliances.
Most hotel rooms come with a hairdryer already, so don’t bother putting one in your suitcase (that space could hold a bottle of Provençal rosé instead).
Adapters & Converters
Laptop chargers, camera chargers, phone chargers – most digital devices like these handle multiple voltages without any trouble. That means a simple travel adapter is usually all you need.
French wall outlets take the round two-pin plug (type "C"), which also fits most other European two-pin plugs. Check the voltage label on your appliance first. That's how you'll know whether an adapter alone will do, or whether you need a converter too.
Adapters aren't hard to find. Hotels, electronics shops, and even some souvenir stores across France sell them. You should also be able to find them in airport shops when you’re leaving your home country.
