Búðir

A charming hamlet on the Snæfellsnes peninsula

Búðir is a small hamlet at the south-western point of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The collection of old buildings making up the hamlet includes an iconic black church, Búðakirkja, built in 1848, and the popular Hotel Búðir, which was rebuilt following a fire in 2001 to resemble the original inn that sat at the location for many years.

Historically, Búðir is believed to have been a popular trade port since the time of Iceland’s settlement, continuing to be a hub in the region throughout Denmark’s commercial monopoly in Iceland.
