LEARN ABOUT LIFE ON THE REMOTE BLASKET ISLANDS

At the very tip of the Dingle Peninsula and along the stunning Slea Head Drive, you can visit the Blasket Centre.

This heritage museum tells the story of the community that used to live on the remote Blasket Islands. The islands themselves stand west of the coast and are now uninhabited. The location of the centre offers sweeping views over the Atlantic and nearby islands.

At the centre, learn more about the former inhabitants and their island lifestyle, up until their evacuation in 1953. The exhibition will offer you a glimpse into the fishing and farming traditions of the islanders as well as their home life.

During your visit, you’ll get a real sense of the struggles of this island community, not only for their own subsistence but to keep their traditional language and culture alive.

The Blasket Centre also highlights the literary legacy left behind by the islanders, with works such as Peig and The Islandman.

An entrance fee applies to visit the Blasket Centre. Guided tours are available and last approximately one hour.
