Britain’s first open-air museum

The Scottish Highlands of yore come to life at the Highland Folk Museum, an open-air “living village” with restored old buildings and actors dressed as their ancestors from past generations. 

This village, covering the years from the early 1700s to the mid-1900s, is comprised of over 30 historical buildings either built as replicas or moved here from original locations. It has even been used as a location for the Outlander television series.

Located in Newtonmore, visitors can also partake in old-fashioned activities, grab a bite to eat at the café or buy traditional handcrafts in the gift shop.
