Your questions about 7-day Italy tour packages, answered
We know that planning a trip throws up plenty of questions – that’s exactly what we’re here for. Read on for answers to your questions about visiting Italy, or check out our Italy travel guide for local tips and practical advice.
Here’s some peace of mind upfront: when you choose us, you can Book With Confidence, knowing your payments are protected. Curious about the details? You’ll find them in our booking terms and FAQs.
1. What does a 7-day Italy tour include?
Every package includes 6 nights of handpicked Comfort Plus accommodation, daily breakfast, a personal itinerary, a hand-marked map and our Italy travel guide.
Beyond that, it depends on which tour you choose. Self-drive packages include a rental car with GPS, unlimited mileage and CDW insurance. Small group tours include an experienced local guide, all group transport and a guaranteed departure. Multi-country train tours include pre-booked rail tickets between Switzerland and Italy.
All packages also include 24/7 support during your trip. And if you pay a 20% deposit on your tour, you’ll get Cancellation Protection for free. This lets you rearrange your dates once or cancel for a partial refund and travel credit.
To find out what the tour you’re interested in includes, see the “What’s included” tab on each tour page.
2. Which Italian regions do these tours cover?
Quite a range – a week is enough time to explore one area at leisure, or hop between wish list-worthy cities. Imagine meandering about Rome’s ancient ruins, seeing the drama of the Amalfi Coast, or gliding along the canals of Venice.
On our 7-day Italy tours, you could:
- Visit “The Big Three” – Rome, Venice and Florence
- Combine a city break in Rome with time in the cultural heart of Tuscany
- Begin in Rome and head for the Amalfi Coast and Naples
- Explore Milan and Northern Italy’s lakes (Como, Garda, Maggiore)
You could even cross multiple countries off your list with a tour of Switzerland and Italy. Browse all Italy tours.
3. What’s the best time of year to visit Italy?
You can visit Italy with Nordic Visitor between April and October. The best time to go depends on what you’d like to do on your trip.
May and September are the sweet spots. You get warm, pleasant temperatures (18–28°C), the main attractions are open, and there are fewer visitors than in the peak summer months.
June to August works well too – especially for the lakes and coast – but cities will feel hot, and queues at popular sites are longer. Pre-booking tickets for top attractions like the Colosseum, Uffizi and Pompeii is especially important in summer.

4. What’s the difference between a self-drive and a guided Italy tour?
On a self-drive tour, you collect a rental car and follow a personal itinerary at your own pace. You decide when to linger and when to move on – your consultant’s recommendations are there as a guide, not a timetable. If you like being spontaneous and don’t mind driving, this is the way to travel.
On a small group tour, an English-speaking local guide will take care of the navigation while you focus on the sights. Groups are limited to 16 travellers, and departures are guaranteed. This is the way to travel if you’re after expert commentary and zero logistics.
Both types of trip include handpicked accommodation, breakfast and 24/7 support during your trip.
5. What can I expect when I arrive in Italy?
After picking up your luggage, head to your accommodation. Italian cities are well connected to their airports by public transport. If you’d prefer door-to-door, your travel expert can arrange private airport transfers as an optional add-on.
Check-in is usually from 3 PM. Early check-in can sometimes be arranged for a small fee – ask your consultant about this in advance. You can always store luggage at the hotel reception if you arrive early.
A welcome pack will be waiting with your hard-copy itinerary, accommodation and tour vouchers, and your Nordic Visitor Italy travel guide.
6. Can I customise my 7-day Italy tour?
Yes. During the booking process, you can add extra nights to extend your stay in stops along the route. You can also choose from optional activities, such as cooking classes, wine tastings, guided tours, and boat trips.
Get in touch with us if you’d like to ask about a more significant customisation, such as combining two routes or building a longer itinerary.
7. What should I pack for a summer trip to Italy?
Pack light, comfortable and smart. Here are some essentials:
- Comfortable walking shoes (cobblestones are everywhere)
- Light, breathable clothing – linen works well
- A light scarf or shawl for visiting churches (your knees and shoulders will need to be covered)
- Sunglasses, sunscreen and a sunhat
- Swimwear for dips in pools, lakes or the sea
- Smarter outfit for evenings in the cities
- A reusable water bottle
- Your camera
