Meet the people behind our 2,500+ 5-star Tripadvisor reviews

Nobody writes a long TripAdvisor review because the hotel had adequate towels.

Think about it. When was the last time you sat down, unprompted, and typed out multiple paragraphs about a service you received? You were either furious or someone genuinely knocked your socks off. There's no in-between.

We have over 2,500 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor. That's a lot of people who could've just closed the tab and gone about their day, but didn't. And when you read through them (we have, many times), you notice something. The reviews aren't really about the places. They're about a person.

A specific person, usually named in the first sentence.

Every one of our tours comes with a dedicated travel consultant. One person, assigned to your trip from the first enquiry to your journey home. They learn how you like to travel. They remember the throwaway comment you made about wanting to see puffins. They answer the 47th email with the same care as the first.

We could talk about our travel consultants all day. But it's better if you just meet a few of them.

Maria, Alps & Central Europe

Maria lives in Lugano, Switzerland. If you haven’t been, it’s the bit where the mountains and the lakes and the borders all start to lose their edges. Everything’s close to everything else. It’s a good place to be based if your job involves helping people figure out where in the Alps they want to go, in what order, and at what pace.

She works from our Munich office. Switzerland, Germany, Austria or Northern Italy. Or even, Prague and Budapest, two newer additions she’s particularly fond of.

"I’m a big fan of road trips," she says, "but I also think train travel is an amazing way to see Europe. It’s relaxing, scenic, and gives you a whole new perspective on the countryside."

Guests rarely come to Maria with a finished plan. More often, it’s fragments. A destination they’ve always wanted to see. A season that feels right. A pace that feels comfortable. Her job is to listen carefully, connect those threads, and build something that makes sense from day one.

"I think guests appreciate knowing they’re not alone. I try to go the extra mile for them, almost like being their first friend in the destination."

One guest had been sitting on our website for years. Just had it bookmarked, waiting for the right moment. When they finally pulled the trigger on Switzerland, Maria was the person they worked with. Here’s what they had to say on Tripadvisor:

Express Switzerland - a spectacular 7-day road trip!

She was professional, friendly and patient in answering all my questions. I was also able to customize my trip to allow us more time to explore the villages rather than cities. By the time we arrived in Switzerland, we were already feeling prepared for the journey.”

Maria says that one of the best parts is when guests send photos afterwards. Guests scrolling back through their trip, reliving the highlights and sending her the moments that meant the most.

Marko, Iceland

Marko has lived in Iceland for over a decade. He works exclusively with Iceland trips: the full circle routes, the tentative first visits, the ones where someone has finally talked their reluctant partner into it. He's married to an Icelandic woman. And he is the, quote, "semi-proud co-owner" of an oversized Maine Coon cat.

He describes himself as someone who’s just as interested in the process as the final product.

"I always try to remove problems before they start," Marko says. "That way, guests can focus on the experience, not the logistics."

In practice, this means answering 50 emails from one guest before they’ve even landed in the country. Every single one getting the same level of thought.

What do guests notice about working with Marko? Honesty, clear replies, and the feeling that someone is always paying attention.

One couple, both in their 70s, drove the entire ring road by themselves. New country, unfamiliar roads, just the two of them in the car. Here’s their Tripadvisor review:

"Other-Worldly" Means "Out of This World"

Although it was only my wife and me driving around all of Iceland, we knew we were never alone. We always had a lifeline back to Marko, one we used on occasion. Nordic Visitor and especially Marko inspired total confidence, making our whole experience seamless and unforgettable."

The part of the job that means most to Marko comes after the trip is over. Returning guests. Reviews where you can tell someone actually sat down and thought about what to write. Those are the ones.

Juliette, Scandinavia, Finland & Estonia

Juliette is French. She moved to Stockholm in 2022 after shorter stints in other countries, but Sweden was the one that finally stuck.

She started at Nordic Visitor in 2023. In that time, she’s built a wardrobe that’s slowly being overtaken by handmade knits (she picked up knitting a few years back and shows no sign of stopping). She has a tattoo of the Finnish word Ystävä, meaning "friend," which she got with one of her closest friends. Her favourite destination to send people? Swedish Lapland. No hesitation on that one.

Oh, and her middle name is her sister’s first name. Her parents loved it too much to use it only once.

"I really enjoy trying to understand what the guests are looking for. What they want to see and do, and then using my knowledge and personal experience to make their dream trip come true."

What guests value from Juliette is her consistency. She's there from the first message through to the last day. Whether that means reworking an itinerary, answering questions, or just being a steady presence in the trip-booking process.

One guest worked with Juliette on a customised Norway trip with 15 separate transfers. The kind of trip that would make most people’s eyes water if they tried to coordinate it on their own. Find out how Juliette pulled it off seamlessly in this Tripadvisor review:

Fabulous experience with Nordic Visitor in Norway!

Juliette’s help was invaluable. Doing my own planning for the 15 transfers was daunting, and her assistance eliminated the stress. I always appreciated Juliette’s responsiveness to my questions and willingness to make changes.”

The proudest moments for Juliette come after the fact. Hearing travel stories from guests who flew halfway around the world, or planned the trip around something that mattered to them. Knowing she had a hand in that is what stays with her.

What 2,500+ reviews actually tell you

You can spot filler reviews from a mile away. "Great experience." “Would recommend." Four stars because they reserve five for... what, exactly?

Our reviews don’t read like that. They’re long. They name names. They describe specific emails, specific phone calls, specific problems that got quietly solved before anyone had to worry about them.

They read like thank-you letters from people who didn’t expect to care this much about a tour operator.

The thing they keep coming back to, every time, in different words: someone cared. One person took ownership and stayed with it. That’s what made the difference.

You’ve just met 3 of our travel consultants. There are more where they came from.

Wanderlust has taken Emma across much of the world, but it was Scotland that she made her adopted home. Aside from enjoying countryside walks, campervan weekends and gigs in Glasgow, you’ll often find her writing about European travel and plotting her next trip.
